CMS Menu System

Posted on July 16, 2015 by

Our CMS menu system is easy to understand as it’s all based on pages. When creating or editing pages you can select which if any menus they will appear in, however there is a whole menu section in the admin which gives more options for organizing menus.

The menu section shows all the menus on the site, depending on the design this might just be the Main Menu though some sites may have extra footer or side menus.

Each of these menus then contains a list of pages currently added:

  • Pages can be added to a menu by clicking the orange button and then selecting one from a simple drop-down list of all pages in the site.
  • Pages can be sorted by a simple drag and drop system.
  • Pages can be removed by clicking on the delete (trash can) icon.

There is also a sub level setting, this controls how many levels of sub menu will be shown. How many sub levels can be selected will depend on the design. Sub menus are based on sub pages, and sub pages of those pages, and so on. If these sub pages don’t exist the sub menus won’t be created no matter the setting.

Multi-User CMS

Managing multiple users in a CMS is often more complicated than it should be, having to fill in field after field when most of the data is never even used or needed.

Web Feet’s CMS provided a very short and simple “Add User” function. All you need to enter in is the new users email address and then select their role ie. Admin, Editor. The system will then produce the new login details including a randomly generated secure password and have them emailed directly to the new user.

CMS File Manager

Posted on December 8, 2014 by

One of the biggest updates we’ve made to our CMS was the addition of a file manager to easily manage images an other files uploaded. We needed a responsive file manger and after some research decided to go with Responsive File Manager 9.

Not only is it responsive but it can be run from within the rich text editor which makes adding images super easy. It also provides simple drag and drop features for uploading files and moving them between folders which can be used on mobile devices.

There are different views for listing the files but they are always displayed with a thumbnail which is especially great for seeing all the images without having to preview them individually.

CMS Page Live Dates

Posted on November 6, 2014 by

Sometimes on a website there are pages you want only want live for a certain period of time such as a Sale or Special offers page. For this reason we have added the option to chose the date and time when you want particular pages to go live.

live_opt

datetimeThe date/time selector uses the jQuery date time plugin (left), so there’s no need to worry what date/time format to enter. Instead you will get a nice graphical interface to select the date from a calendar.

To put a page live after a between certain dates, just fill in the “Live From Date” and “Live Until Date” fields. However if you just want a page live after a certain date you can leave the “Live Until Date” blank, conversely if you wanted a page live until a date then you just leave the “Live From Date” blank.

Embedding Youtube Videos in the Web-Feet CMS

Posted on October 14, 2014 by

One question we’ve always get asked by clients is “How can I add a video to my CMS website ?”.

This can be done by copying and pasting the embed code. However this has caused many issues with clients pasting the code in the wrong section, breaking HMTL markup validity or even messing up the page layout.

I decided to look at how we could bypass the whole issue of adding HTML and I came up with a simple search system.

v1

Anyone using the system now just has to type the title of the video they wish to add and the system will generate the HTML in the background and insert it to the webpage. All results are generated by YouTube’s search system.

v3

Once the video has been found a preview will be displayed just so the user can confirm if they have selected the right video.
